Hong Kong Special Olympics (HKSO)
Bowling Invitational Games May 22-24, 2013

Hong Kong Special Olympics (HKSO) was founded by a few experts who were keen in serving the intellectually disabled. The first Hong Kong Special Olympics Track and Field Sports was held in Aberdeen Sports Ground in December 1975 with about 500 participants in a one-day athletic meet. After intensive development and expansion in the past few decades, thousands of athletes and participants from around 100 agencies joined HKSO, with annual participation of over 40,000 head counts in the year-round training and competitions in Athletics, Badminton, Basketball, Bocce, Bowling, Football, Golf, Gymnastics, Handball, Skating, Rowing, Snowshoeing, Swimming, Table Tennis and Volleyball.

HKSO strides hard to provide a variety of Olympic-type sports for persons over eight years of age with intellectual disability, giving them continuing opportunities to develop physical fitness and to demonstrate courage. It also allowed them to experience joy and to participate in the sharing of gifts, skills and friendship with their families, fellow athletes, and the community.

We also send athletes to overseas to participate in regional and international Special Olympics Games (including the World Summer/Winter Games held every four years alternately) in order to further develop their potentials in sports and establish positive social skills through competitions and interactions with people from different nationalities. Prominent results in World Games have been achieved by our athletes which arouse large media coverage and public awareness.
